Getting 5.1 from my set-up, help/advice needed please.

Hi,

Much more of an audio noob than I would of hoped! I've been trying to resolve my issue with Google and am just making my head hurt.

I have just purchased Logitech Z906 5.1 surround sound set-up. I am currently using it with a Bluetooth adapter which is only good for 2.1.

Problem I have is that there are no digital/optical or 6 channel direct ports on my Predator Helios 300 laptop or Dell S3220DGF monitor. I have a spare HDMI port on the monitor which supports NVidia HD sound. Is there anything I can buy to get 5.1 working by linking through the monitor/laptop?

Thanks in advance,

Dan.

I do not have access to the user manuals for your devices but I did look them up. I suspect that you are running the HDMI output from the laptop to the Dell and that the Dell's two HDMI ports are both inputs.

If that is correct, I can think of one way to get 5.1 to the Logitech. You need an HDMI audio extractor that supports 5.1. You connect the HDMI out from the laptop to its input and the HDMI output from the extractor to your display. Then you would feed the 5.1 analog audio outputs to the direct 5.1 input jacks on the Logitech.

These gadgets come in many prices from cheap (https://www.newegg.com/p/2W4-00CW-00045) and

to quite good (https://www.essenceelectrostatic.com/product/evolve-ii-4k-hdmi-v2-0-7-1-channel-dac/).

I have no personal experience with any except the last one.

Bundle option... Still have the receipt?

For the same MSRP of the desktop speaker system, you could return it and can get this bundle:
